Rhode Island has lost a great Singer, Musician, Gentleman and someone I'm very proud to call, a Friend! When I first met Manny aka "Uncle Manny" Barros Jr., he was singing with Michael Vincent Davis, Steven Palumbo & John Vaughan~ a group collectively known as TWYCE. And what a collective and talented group!!
Many a night wherever they were playing, no matter the weather, my friend Janice & I would be sitting in the audience waiting for them to start singing so we could
get on the dance floor. Many great memories and wonderful extraordinary times...and of course, incredible talent and Music all under one roof! ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ .•*¨*•♫♪♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ .•*¨*•♫
The picture above is that of a very fond memory. It was Manny who remembered it was MY Birthday and had the group sign/autograph a card. This was the picture on the cover which said, Happy Birthday.
Inside the card it said,
"To have a good friend is one of the highest delights of life; to be a good friend is one of the noblest and most difficult"....Happy Birthday to a Dear Friend. I treasure this card and have had it for years, as I'm certain it was Manny who made the card and chose the inscription.......
To get to know Manny and his professional accomplishments, I'm posting his Biography which is from his Web-site. Certainly this is anything better than I could have written right now. I have soooo many memorable evenings of his performances that I could share, but felt this was more appropriate.
"For over (4) decades Manny has been performing in many of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut’s popular and finest entertainment venues."
"Manny began his music career as teenager in the band Twilighters, along with Jeffrey Osborne, Victor and Perry “Tiny”Tavares of “Tavares”, and John Byrd. As his teen years turn into adulthood he became the opening act for popular artists like Isaac Hayes, Barry White, The Orlons, and The Chiffons. By the mid 70’s Manny found himself in Philadelphia as a songwriter with Joe Jefferson and Charlie Simmons, song writers for the popular 70’s band the Spinners.
Manny’s love for music and an audience put back behind the microphone with “Perfect Time” a duo with his long time friend Milton Javery. After a brief hiatus Manny returned to the performing arts with the encouragement and coaching from Rose Weaver in an off Broadway tour of “Stepping Out”. By the early 80’s, he became the founder and leader of “Fokis” a popular dance band in many Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts dance clubs. As the 80’s drew to a close “Fokis” reorganized and expanded and became “TWYCE” one of Rhode Island’s favorite club entertainment.
With Manny Barros as manager and lead vocalist, an evening with “TWYCE “ was an evening to remember. Although the members of “TWYCE” has changed from the originals Manny Barros Jr, Frank Reis and John Byrd, to Michael V Davis, Steve Palumbo, Jon Vaughn, and Michelle Hill to the current members Jessie Baker Jr and Leatta Barrett, the sounds of “TWYCE” are forever etched in the memories of many weddings, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, Christmas and special Parties."~http://www.twyce4music.com/mannybarros/
