Calling all MUSIC Fans!! Where are my MUSIC Fans???♪♫•♫
Who wouldnt want to be wearing these and I have some!
⎝⏠⏝⏠⎠♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ .•*¨*•♫♪♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ .•*¨*•♫
Hannah Garrison is Co-President of WEAR YOUR MUSIC and was a client of mine.
She used to advertise with Me (AZU-Jewelry) when I was an Account Executive for a Magazine here in Rhode Island.
She is an impeccable Jewelry Designer with roots here in Rhode Island. I have a couple of her bracelets. They've done well and the Fans love them! Each bracelet depending on the Artist is priced accordingly.
Her story is here below:
"Wear Your Music®is a company whose philosophy centers round our love for music and our desire to contribute to more than our own pocketbooks. We make Rock’n’Roll jewelry that ROCKS!
Hannah Garrison began crafting bracelets made from used guitar strings for musician friends and their families. Steve Bernstein was trying to find a unique way for guitar strings to garner advertising attention. He posted an ad on Craigslist that read: “Do you have any ideas for interesting products made with guitar strings?" Hannah contacted Steve and the Artist Bracelets were born.
The idea, embraced by numerous media outlets including In Style, and People Magazines, Treehugger.com, allaccess.com, and VH1.com, has grown to include participation by over 150 artists such as The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, guitar legend Les Paul and heartthrob John Mayer. The overwhelming response inspired WYM to begin offering a line of lower priced bracelets as well as charms, necklaces and an expanding Rock’n’Roll jewelry line.
"Wear Your Music® has become a brand that represents the intersection of music, fashion, and philanthropy," says Hannah. Adds Steve, "In growing our business, we won't lose sight of our original goals: not only to do well, but to do good.""
Some Info on site to people who purchase:
"Each guitar string bracelet is handcrafted from recycled fine silver and guitar strings used and donated by the artist you select. The bracelets must slip over your hand unless a custom clasp is added; please size accordingly. Bracelets are packaged in recycled DVD cases with certificates of authenticity.
****Profits are donated to charities selected by the artists. Each bracelet is custom made upon order and production time can take up to three weeks before item ships."

It wouldn’t be an official Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet Mardi Gras celebration without Lafayette, Lousiana’s Grammy nominated Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys who rock the crowd with their pumping hybrid of Cajun, zydeco and swamp pop. The dance floor is always filled when Steve and company are on stage. The band will be armed with new songs as they celebrate the release of their new CD, Grand Isle

CJ and the band have appeared on the Jon Stewart show, CNN and VH-1.
With an encyclopedic repertoire of genres including zydeco, Cajun, R&B, and blues, Leroy Thomas & the Zydeco Roadrunners promise to deliver the Louisiana tradition of foot stompin’ party music. West Warwick, RI 8 Years ago today~The Station Nightclub Fire
The Station nightclub fire was the fourth deadliest nightclub fire in American history, killing 100 people. It would be remiss of Me if I didn't mention this Anniversary.
Not only as a reminder, but with respect to all the lives lost in this horrific tragedy.
"The fire began at 11:07 PM EST, on Thursday, February 20, 2003, at The Station, a glam metal and rock n roll themed nightclub located at 211 Cowesett Ave. in West Warwick, Rhode Island."
"The fire was caused by pyrotechnics set off by the tour manager of the evening's headlining band, Great White, which ignited flammable sound insulation foam in the walls and ceilings surrounding the stage. A fast-moving fire engulfed the club in 5½ minutes. Some 230 people were injured and another 132 escaped uninjured. Video footage of the fire shows its initial growth, billowing smoke which quickly made escape impossible, and the exit blockage which further hindered evacuation."
For more detailed information and above context was taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Station_nightclub_fire.

MANUEL BARROS JR.~Singer, Musician, Gentleman & Friend Extraordinaire
TWYCE
Pictured above members:

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯\)¯¯¯¯'\_„„„„\)
Rhode Island has lost a great Singer, Musician, Gentleman and someone I'm very proud to call, a Friend! When I first met Manny aka "Uncle Manny" Barros Jr., he was singing with Michael Vincent Davis, Steven Palumbo & John Vaughan~ a group collectively known as TWYCE. And what a collective and talented group!!
Many a night wherever they were playing, no matter the weather, my friend Janice & I would be sitting in the audience waiting for them to start singing so we could
get on the dance floor. Many great memories and wonderful extraordinary times...and of course, incredible talent and Music all under one roof! ♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ .•*¨*•♫♪♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♥ .•*¨*•♫
The picture above is that of a very fond memory. It was Manny who remembered it was MY Birthday and had the group sign/autograph a card. This was the picture on the cover which said, Happy Birthday.
Inside the card it said,
"To have a good friend is one of the highest delights of life; to be a good friend is one of the noblest and most difficult"....Happy Birthday to a Dear Friend. I treasure this card and have had it for years, as I'm certain it was Manny who made the card and chose the inscription.......
To get to know Manny and his professional accomplishments, I'm posting his Biography which is from his Web-site. Certainly this is anything better than I could have written right now. I have soooo many memorable evenings of his performances that I could share, but felt this was more appropriate.
"For over (4) decades Manny has been performing in many of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut’s popular and finest entertainment venues."
"Manny began his music career as teenager in the band Twilighters, along with Jeffrey Osborne, Victor and Perry “Tiny”Tavares of “Tavares”, and John Byrd. As his teen years turn into adulthood he became the opening act for popular artists like Isaac Hayes, Barry White, The Orlons, and The Chiffons. By the mid 70’s Manny found himself in Philadelphia as a songwriter with Joe Jefferson and Charlie Simmons, song writers for the popular 70’s band the Spinners.
Manny’s love for music and an audience put back behind the microphone with “Perfect Time” a duo with his long time friend Milton Javery. After a brief hiatus Manny returned to the performing arts with the encouragement and coaching from Rose Weaver in an off Broadway tour of “Stepping Out”. By the early 80’s, he became the founder and leader of “Fokis” a popular dance band in many Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts dance clubs. As the 80’s drew to a close “Fokis” reorganized and expanded and became “TWYCE” one of Rhode Island’s favorite club entertainment.
With Manny Barros as manager and lead vocalist, an evening with “TWYCE “ was an evening to remember. Although the members of “TWYCE” has changed from the originals Manny Barros Jr, Frank Reis and John Byrd, to Michael V Davis, Steve Palumbo, Jon Vaughn, and Michelle Hill to the current members Jessie Baker Jr and Leatta Barrett, the sounds of “TWYCE” are forever etched in the memories of many weddings, birthdays, bar mitzvahs, Christmas and special Parties."~http://www.twyce4music.com/mannybarros/
Manny's Tribute page can be found at: http://www.twyce4music.com/tribute.htm
***The Celebration of Life for Manny Barros will take place on:
Wednesday, Feburary 23, 2011 @ 10am at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave(Off Smithfield Ave)., Lincoln, RI. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 22,2011 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. During the calling hours there will be a Musical Tribute featuring local artists from both near and far.

Saratoga Sunset from Middletown, Rhode Island 2/12/11
USS Saratoga
Photo compliments of: James Clayton Sattel
Saratoga was decommissioned at the Naval Station, Mayport, Florida, on 20 August 1994and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register the same day. She was towed to Philadelphia in May 1995, then, upon deactivation of the Philadelphia Navy Yard in August 1998, to Naval Station Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. There, she was first placed on donation hold, then her status was changed to "disposal as an experimental ship", and finally she was returned to donation hold on 1 January 2000. While a hulk at Newport, ex-Saratoga, like her sisters, has been extensively stripped to support the active carrier fleet. There was an active effort to make her a museum ship in Quonset Point in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. In April 2010 the Saratoga was removed from donation hold and scheduled to be disposed of.

Rewired" at the Hard Rock Café Boston Grand Opening Last Night 2/11/11
The year 2010 may be remembered as the one when dance music made a return to the mainstream. And here's an omen that 2011 will see the trend grow: Rewired, the first club night at the Hard Rock Café Boston (22-24 Clinton Street, Boston, 617.424.7625), a mass-appeal tourist mecca with a permanent display of artifacts from commercial rock artists. Leading the party is DJ Joe Bermudez, whose work melds Top 40 pop with house-style dance. (He's remixed everyone from Rihanna to Katy Perry.) And the Hard Rock hasn't just been rewired, but restructured: a new side entrance ushers guests directly into the Cavern Club space, now outfitted with plush booths and a new lighting system. The adjacent green room, a pre-performance space where acts like Aerosmith relaxed before taking the stage, is now a special VIP area where about 100 lucky partiers (selected through promos or handpicked for hotness) can escape from the dance floor with a flat-screen TV, an Xbox 360, and private wait service. Consider it a dance revolution. Cover is $10.

The Scene – If everyone took a favorite piece from their grandmother's living room and brought it to a centralized location, you'd have a good chance of recreating L'Elizabeth's interior. The comfy sofas, ceramic lamps and antique coffee tables blend to create a romantic atmosphere that dates back to an era older than its 1973 founding. With the average age of patrons hovering around 50, it's obvious that those who discovered this spot in their heyday keep coming back for more. The Draw? Drinks here are as traditional as the decor: bourbon, scotch, sherry, port & cognac!

Back to School I go!!!
Hi everyone,
My aplogies for being M.I.A.
I have been busy preparing, testing and finally got my results! I will be attending MASSAGE THERAPY School here in Rhode Island. One of the best in this field I might add. After a long hard road, many decisions and having the passion to finally get to do what I have always wanted and talked about for years, (16 years to be exact), I will become a student again. A working one at that.
My classes officially start Tuesday, so a Big SHOUT OUT to my Facebook Friends and my Family in support! If I am not on there as much as I used to be, I apologize. I will miss you! But, you will know where I am! Feel free to write on my Wall with any support you may want to throw my way, those of you who have done this, I'm sure know what I am taking on.
I will be taking Day Classes as I want to finish in 8 months. The evening program is a year and 1/2. Too long for Me. I am anxious to pursue this and start working.
Thank you for all your well wishes!!
This journey will be "new" and "intersting" to Me. Another labor of love that I can add to my already filled resume of experiences!
More importantly, I'm looking to make all my friends feel better and relieve the Stress from their Bodies, Mind, Soul and Hearts!
Sincerely,
Susan

"The Lion King" rolls back into Providence at the PPAC
February 1-20. There's no greater magic than this stage to be lit up by this amazing production!
I had the good fortune of seeing "The Lion King" the first time it was here. If you
haven't had the opportunity, well now's you chance!
I have been to Africa and what I found so amzing was the costumes and how the people brought the animals to life! Julie Taymor, a director and designer well known for mythical staging inspired by international theatrical forms brought this to life!
Simply amazing!

Quote for today
I don't do boredom well. Whenever I am debating something new in my life I ask myself one question before moving forward; "What's the worst thing that could happen?" Then "go"...the knowledge of how is sometimes secondary to the vision.
January 19th~ One of my Birthday Celebrations at Old Canteen Restaurant
Joe Marzilli’s Old Canteen restaurant, which opened during Dwight Eisenhower’s first administration, in 1956, Mr. Marzilli was a legendary figure on the Hill, running an establishment where everybody knew your name and the menu was as reliable as the changing of the seasons.
His customers ran the gamut, from crooner Frank Sinatra and then-Sen. John F. Kennedy and his wife, Jacqueline, to local wiseguys and several generations of Italian food aficionados.
In a 2002 interview with The Journal, Mr. Marzilli said one of the secrets to his eatery’s success was sticking with tradition and spurning avant-garde cuisine and flavor-of-the-week “foodie” courses.
“We’ve stayed in tune with those who like to come in and remember all the old-time cooking like they had at home and at grandma’s,” said Marzilli. “We are an old-fashioned Italian-American restaurant.
In a world in constant flux, Mr. Marzilli was proud that his establishment was an island of Old World familiarity and gentility.
“If people passed away 30 years ago and came back today and walked into the restaurant, they’d see that nothing has changed,” Marzilli said in the 2002 interview. And in 2011, nothing has changed. It is still one of the best places to dine in this state. I am proud and it has been an honor to have known Mr. Marzilli and his family and have been friends with them for 30 years!
Plates overflowing with osso buco, a big veal shank, is a specialty. The Old Canteen, which is run by his oldest son, Sal Marzilli, (seen here in the picture with Me) is also known for its pasta e fagiole and escarole and bean soups, its cacciatores, lasagnas and braciole. My personal favorite is the Veal Saltimbocca!
Thank you for a wonderful Birthday!!
*I want to personally thank my friend, Lynne Renehan Milot, for texting Me and asking what I was doing today. As this celebration was "reserved" for MOM. But my mother wasn't feeling well and had to cancel on Me. Lynne said I will go with you. Thank you for a wonderful lunch, gift and your and Rene's treat as well as your friendship! XO

My Birthday Celebration at Siena Restaurant with great friends...
Anthony and Chris Tarro own and manage both Siena Restaurant, located in Providence RI, and Siena Cucina · Enoteca, located in East Greenwich. I met Anthony Tarro while he was attending Hendricken High School through some mutual friends.
Located in the heart of Providence's Federal Hill, Siena Restaurant was opened in 2005 and features authentic Tuscan cuisine in a warm and lively atmosphere. While the brothers were raised in Warwick, R.I., their family has deep roots in the Italian-American community on Federal Hill making it the perfect location for their first restaurant.
Anthony's passion for food began at home watching his mother prepare meals for the family. He began working in food service in high school and has not stopped since. He is a graduate of the RI School of Design - Culinary Arts Program and earned his bachelor's degree in Food Service Management from Johnson and Wales University. He has studied Tuscan cuisine in Bologna, Italy.
Anthony has spent 20 years mastering his specialty of Italian cuisine. His accomplishments include being honored as chef of the year by the RI chapter of the American Culinary Federation and acting as chef for President George H. Bush on a visit to Rhode Island.
Although I did not dine in Siena on this evening, the food at Siena is also outstanding! I stopped in to see my friend Siena, who is a bartender there (and no relation to the owners I might add), she surprised Me with this wonderful dessert! Just what I needed, more dessert! It's going to be a long week at the Gym!
Thank you for a wonderful & delicious birthday surprise!

Hot Weiners or "Gaggers"-A Rhode Island MUST have.....
As far as Rhode Island regional cuisine goes, hot weiners are probably the most famous fast food delicacy there is. I might go so far to say, the Hot Weiner is even more popular than pizza strips, coffee milk and Dell's Lemonade combined.
Ever had a hot weiner? If you have, you'll know that Rhode Island's New York System's hot weiner sauce is made from a top secret recipe, guarded by the families that created them! See Site: http://www.olneyvillenewyorksystem.com/
"Olneyville New York System, in Providence's Olneyville neighborhood, is often cited as the "definitive" or "quintessential" vendor and dates to its opening by Greek immigrant Anthony Stevens in 1946. Stevens' cousin Gust Pappas ran Original New York System in the Smith Hill neighborhood, which claims its own founding as 1927. Still another institution, Coney Island System, claims an earlier date of 1915. There are dozens of establishments across the state that offer wieners, and the question of which is "best" is often contentious among residents" Wikipedia.
Recipe courtesy of Guy Fieri:
Cook Time:30 min
Level: Easy
Yield: 20 hot dogs
Ingredients
4 tablespoons margarine
2 yellow onions, minced, divided
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons paprika

In a medium sauce pot boil hot dogs with salt and steam buns.
When meat is done simmering, add meat mixture to the hot dog in the bun, top evenly with minced onion, yellow mustard, and a sprinkle celery salt.
Prescott Farm, Portsmouth
photo compliments:James Clayton Sattel
Prescott Farm offers a glimpse of early rural New England through its buildings and landscape. The Farm traces its origin to the early 18th century when the Nichols-Overing House (c. 1730) was central to the site. Doris Duke, through the Newport Restoration Foundation, purchased the 40–acre farm with the idea of preserving open space and the Nichols–Overing House, as well as creating a setting for additional historic buildings that were rescued from imminent demolition.
